Salutations to the populace of River Haven and surrounds.

We are Master Don Baron Henry Fox and The Honourable Lady Kara Kirriemuir, friends who enjoy playing in Lochac, River Haven and surrounds. We both joined the society in the early 1990’s mundanely. Between the two of us we have more than 50 years’ experience enjoying the medieval recreational lifestyle.

While predominantly a fencer Master Henry has participated in all facets of the martial combat forms, except equestrian, and during his time has used this experience to perform as Rapier Marshal for several local groups (currently Rapier Marshal of River Haven). However, Henry enjoys working in Arts & Sciences fields as well, including class presentation, research, writing and cooking. From Henry himself: I enjoy holding conversations on all subjects, helping on the martial field, listening to other’s exploits in different fields, and learning all manner of aspects from medieval times.

TH Lady Kara has participated in all elements of SCA events in the last 30+ years. Starting with holding officer roles in the fledging Parvus Portus group (aka Willoughby Vale), moving into A&S elements with a particular interest in cooking and later pyrography. Along the way Kara has held all officer roles in the various local groups, learned the basics of martial combat (except equestrian), taught numerous A&S classes, worked as Head Cook for GNW and currently holds the Lochac Lists role. From Kara: I enjoy every facet of this amazing hobby like listening and talking to others about their passions, learning crafts and being in the thick of activity helping to organise elements in the background.

We both see the Society as the greatest hobby we could ever participate in. It offers friendship, learning and knowledge, experience, civility, and best of all fun! For us we are citizens of Lochac, members of the Barony and surrounds, and general populace participants overall. We use these ideals to help guide our activities within our local groups and the wider Lochac community.

We see the role of Baron and Baroness as one of facilitators. We believe that it is our responsibility to guide, encourage and support the citizens of River Haven in all their endeavours. We both are invested in listening to the concerns, challenges, ideas, and exploits of the populace. The input from the Barony’s people will aid us in guiding the group to stronger engagement within the community of Brisbane as a whole.

“Come and play everyone is welcome!” We would like to use this tenet to help improve engagement from within the local community. We would like to incorporate some of the current ideas about increasing the prominence of the Society in and around Brisbane. These ideas include holding more events at local parks, placing a large banner or sign at the current River Haven location, involving the local Brisbane councillors as support for group activities, and communicating with other historical groups or events (e.g History Alive, Valknut Meadery – Boonah, Celtic Festival, BrisCon). We feel this will increase our presence potentially leading to more people who wish to come and have fun! We would like to see a ‘Buddy system’ in place for new members as they join. Ideally this would be someone who aligns with their particular interests and can provide information and guidance on growing their (new member) enjoyment to aid with retention.

We both would love to continue growing River Haven and Lochac as a whole with you the populace. To this end come and have a cuppa with us and discuss your thoughts and ideas! We invite you to talk to us outside of the Baronial succession process as well. The invitation is always open as we love to converse with everyone about all aspects of the society and our fabulous, inclusive, diverse and every-growing game!
